How Might Our Christian Faith Guide and Inform Our Civic Life?
If this question has been on your mind, you are not alone! In recent weeks, I’ve had several requests for guidance… not in how to vote, but in how to survive this contentious election season.
We live in an era of extreme political polarization. Arguments about the role of government have eroded trust in public institutions and often spill over into our personal lives. But how did we get here? What does Lutheran theology tell us about our responsibilities as both Christians and citizens? And how can we, as believers, work to heal current divisions and create a government that better serves all people?
Certainly, questions like these have no easy answers, and they require each of us to engage in personal reflection. We hope the video below provides some guidance—and a measure of hope—as you navigate questions of faith and civic engagement this November and beyond.
Peace,
Pastor Caroline
