God’s Work. Our Hands. is an “opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America –one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.” Just like last year, our opportunities will encompass a month of service. Most activities are scheduled for the second week of September, but many will continue throughout the month. Below is a list of the opportunities available. You can bring donations and sign up for any of these activities at the God’s Work. Our Hands. display in the narthex. When you sign up, be sure to grab a God’s Work. Our Hands. t-shirt to wear as you volunteer.
Christ the King Lutheran Church:: Volunteers are needed to (1) bake cookies for shut-ins, (2) make cards for shut-ins, (3) visit shut-ins and deliver the cookies and cards, (4) help shut-ins on projects around their home, (5) clean up the church after the church picnic, (6) help with a rummage sort and (7) pray for the CtK members doing God’s Work. Our Hands. in our community. Donations being collected are cookies for shut-ins and food for the church picnic.
Center for the Homeless: Volunteer to serve a meal to the residents of the shelter.
Clay Food Pantry: Donated items being collected for the food pantry include (1) $10 donations, as Meijer on Portage Road will match any donations in a designated time, (2) personal items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, razors, lotion, etc (3) gently used toys to be given at their Island of Misfit Toys Christmas event, where pantry guests can “shop” for Christmas gifts.
Cultivate Culinary: Process frozen meals to be prepared and given to the community.
Dismas House: Volunteer to make a meal and dine with the residents of the home.
Habitat for Humanity: Volunteers are needed to work on the landscaping at this year’s Matthew 25 Home. Volunteers are also needed to make and serve lunch to the landscapers at the site.
Healthwin Specialized Care: Volunteers are needed to (1) play bingo with the residents and (2) make artificial flower displays with residents for the nurses stations and (3) deliver and possibly plant mums outside the facility. Donations being collected include: vases and silk flowers, (2) bingo prizes, (3) $12 to cover the cost of 2 mums.
The Humane Society: Donations are being collected and volunteers are needed to drop off the donations. Donated items include: canned dog and cat food, new or used towels, new or used blankets, empty toilet paper rolls, Kong dog toys and pine rabbit bedding.
Ronald McDonald House: Volunteers are needed to organize and clean different areas of the House.
The Women’s Care Center: A volunteer is needed to deliver donated items. Items to donate include: baby blankets, baby footie sleepers (all sizes), diapers (all sizes), 100 count baby wipes, sippy cups & baby mirror for cars (can get at Walmart).
