1 in 4 adults suffer from a diagnosable mental health condition in any year, yet nearly 60% do not receive the care they need. Through our outreach efforts, we aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, as well as engage our community in conversation regarding mental wellness.
Hymn Festival of Healing and hope
"The Hymn Fest offers us the opportunity to celebrate our agency's growth and community impact, as well as providing a platform to advocate for stigma-free mental health care for all.
Through music, readings, and testimonials, we are able to acknowledge the pain and suffering many experience with mental illness, while also celebrating the healing and hope of treatment and recovery. " Alexandra Sobieski Executive Director of Seasons Counseling of Michiana “Coordinating the Annual Hymn Festival of Healing & Hope has become one of the best parts of my job as Director of Music Ministries at CtK. I have seen how powerful it can be when the Church invites us to reflect upon the complexities of being alive with honesty and humility - that somehow, our light and our darkness can be held and reconciled within the heart of God. Music, especially the act of singing together as faith communities, is a gift given to us from God to help us reconcile these things within ourselves. CtK is a faith community that strives to make space and walk alongside people living with mental health challenges and their families. The hymn festival is perhaps one of the most outward ways that we can say to our neighbors, 'you’re safe here and we’ve got your back. ’”

The Hymn Festival of Healing and Hope is a collaboration between Christ the King and Seasons Counseling of Michiana and ushers in Mental Health Awareness Week (October 6-12, 2019) by acknowledging the role that faith communities can play in the healing journeys of others. The event will take place on October 4, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in South Bend. This event is free, family-friendly, and includes a light dessert reception after the festival.
The event began in 2014 as a celebration of the then 40-year collaboration between Christ the King Lutheran Church and Samaritan Counseling Center to provide our community with caring, professional, and inclusive mental health counseling. Performers include the Christ the King Lutheran Church choirs, the Notre Dame Children’s Choir, and the Ripple Effect Choir.
