WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
​From Ash Wednesday through Easter, CtK will offer multiple opportunities to worship each week. All services marked with an asterisk (*) will be both livestreamed and recorded for viewing at your convenience. Livestreams and recorded services can be accessed online via the CtK website and the church’s YouTube channel.
Ash Wednesday Worship
Wednesday, March 2  +  11 am and 7 pm*
Join us in the sanctuary for a traditional Ash Wednesday service, including Communion and imposition of ashes. 

 “Drive-Through” Ashes
Wednesday, March 2  +  12–1 pm
For those unable to attend worship in the sanctuary, the pastors will offer prayer and imposition of ashes in the front parking lot between noon and 1 pm on Ash Wednesday.

Throughout Lent, Sunday worship services will be held at their regular times: 8:15 am (traditional), 9:30 am (contemporary), and 11:15 am (traditional).

Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, with services held at 8:15, 9:30, and 11:15 am. All three services will include a processional with palm branches.

During the first two weeks of Lent, all are encouraged to bring in product donations for the Spring Break Food Pack Initiative conducted in conjunction with Clay Food Pantry. We will also collect cash donations to purchase ingredients for CtK’s “Cooking for a Cause” events. Shopping lists and collection boxes will be available in the narthex on Sunday and throughout the week.

​Weeks 3 and 4: Easter Basket Outreach

In conjunction with First Presbyterian Church of South Bend, CtK has committed to providing Easter baskets for over 100 children at LaSalle Park Homes. Bring in items to fill the baskets or make a monetary donation to help bring joy to children in our community. Shopping lists and collection boxes will be available in the narthex on Sunday and throughout the week.

Weeks 5 and 6: Feminine Hygiene

Feminine hygiene products are a necessity—yet their cost is a burden for many women across the globe. Bring in feminine hygiene supplies for distribution through the Clay Food Pantry, or provide a monetary donation to support efforts to make reusable pads for girls in Malawi. Collection boxes will be available in the narthex on Sunday and throughout the week.

Card Making

Stop by the narthex to make one-of-a-kind greeting cards. Throughout the year, the Pastoral Care Committee will send these cards to individuals in need of prayer or simply a kind word.
 
Cooking for a Cause

Help prepare meals for CtK community members in need of TLC. We’ll gather in Van Oort Hall on March 6 and 13 to make casseroles and again on March 27 to make baked goods. Finished meals will be stored in the church freezers for distribution in the months ahead. If you’d like to participate, please sign up in the narthex or online.
 
Easter Basket Craft Event

In partnership with First Presbyterian Church, CtK will provide Easter baskets to over 100 children at LaSalle Park Homes. All are invited to stop by the narthex to assemble craft materials that will be included in each basket. If you would like to help but cannot attend in person, watch for details on take-home kits in the weekly announcements.
 
Women (Em)Powered: A Benefit Concert for St. Margaret’s House
Sunday, March 20
3:30 pm  +  CtK Sanctuary

All are invited to a concert featuring piano, viola, and vocal performances. This event is organized by St. Mary's College faculty member Rose Wollman as part of a community engagement grant, and all proceeds will be donated to St. Margaret's House. Tickets are $15 for CtK affiliates and can be purchased online, by phone at (574) 284-4625, or in person at the O’Laughlin Auditorium box office on the St. Mary’s campus. Please note that masks are required for all who attend the concert.

In some parts of the world, girls miss one week of school per month because they lack access to feminine hygiene products. Help promote women’s education by coming to the narthex to cut material that will be sewn into reusable pads for girls in Malawi. Join us for a series of films addressing systemic poverty and structural racism. Movies will be screened on five consecutive Mondays at the new downtown library, starting at 6 pm. Each film will be followed by discussion with Notre Dame film experts and local nonprofit advocates. This series is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of South Bend in cooperation with Notre Dame’s Browning Cinema and Department of Film, Television, and Theater. Dates and films are as follows:

International Women’s Day “Party with a Purpose”

Stop by the Fireside Room at IUSB between 11 am and 3 pm to celebrate International Women’s Day and learn about ways to help women across the globe. Enjoy presentations by several nonprofits dedicated to women’s empowerment; buy fair-trade goods made by women artisans; and participate in hands-on service projects to help girls in Malawi. This event is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of South Bend and the IUSB Honors Program.

Join Afghan refugee and Calvin College student Freshta Tori Jan for a discussion of her young people’s book Courage: My Story of Persecution. We’ll gather for lunch at CtK at 12:30 pm, then travel (either individually or as a group) to First Presbyterian. The presentation begins at 1:30 pm and will be followed by a book signing and opportunity to learn more about Afghan refugee programs in Michiana. If you plan to join us for lunch at CtK, please sign up in the narthex or online. If you plan to meet us at First Presbyterian, no signup is necessary.
 
Until Justice Be Done Book Study

Learn more about the history of civil rights in the United States by taking part in a three-session study of Until Justice Be Done by Kate Masur. Meetings will be held at First Presbyterian Church in downtown South Bend. This series is a cooperative effort of First Presbyterian, the Civil Rights Heritage Center, and IUSB.
